The UK eVisa for Pakistanis: No Sticker, No BRP — Just Your UKVI Account
For decades, the proof of a UK visa was physical: a vignette sticker printed across a passport page, later joined by the BRP card you collected after arrival. That era is over. From 25 February 2026, visitors to the UK who need a visa are issued an eVisa only — a digital record of your immigration status, held online in a UKVI account — nothing is glued into your passport. For Pakistani applicants, this changes the practical shape of every visit, study and family application. The process is learnable — but it has moved the classic failure points from the embassy stage to your own phone.
What Was Replaced, and When
Three dates carry the whole story:
- 31 December 2024 — Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) stopped being valid evidence of immigration status. The plastic card died; the underlying permission did not.
- 2025 — UK visas began migrating wholesale to digital records.
- 25 February 2026 — the British government confirmed the endpoint: visa-required visitors get the eVisa only. No vignette, no collection, no sticker.
If your mental model of a UK visa still involves a passport page, update it — the UK visa guide covers the application itself; this file covers what happens after approval, which is where the system is new.
The New Journey, Step by Step
- Apply on GOV.UK exactly as before — the application, fee and supporting documents have not fundamentally changed.
- Give biometrics at the visa application centre in Pakistan (VFS Global runs the centres in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi).
- Receive the decision email — approval now arrives with a reference number, not a passport sticker.
- Create your UKVI account on GOV.UK (free, under an hour, two-step sign-in), then add your passport — the eVisa must be linked to the exact passport you will fly on.
- Travel — airlines and border officers check your status digitally against that passport.
Every step after the decision email is your responsibility, and a missed step surfaces at the check-in desk.
Share Codes: The Nine Characters That Prove Everything
A share code is a nine-character code generated from your UKVI account that lets someone else — an employer, a landlord, a university — view your status online. Two rules matter: a share code lasts 90 days and can be reused within that window, and you generate a fresh code per purpose. Pakistani visitors most often need share codes for sponsoring relatives' paperwork, university enrolment and rented accommodation — the parents' UK visit visa guide shows where these checks slot into a family visit.
Where DIY Applicants Slip
- The dying email address. Signing up with a university or office email you will lose means losing the account's anchor. Use a personal address that will outlive the visa.
- The NADRA renewal trap. Get a new Pakistani passport and the system does not update itself — you must add the new passport to the UKVI account manually. Flying on a fresh passport that was never linked is the most common eVisa failure.
- The damaged chip. Identity verification reads your passport's chip; a battered document that fails scanning becomes a support-ticket saga.
- The whole family, one afternoon. Every traveler — including each child — needs their own account. Do the digital work before the suitcase, not during it.
- Last-minute setup. Creating the account the night before departure leaves zero margin for a typo or a photo that will not verify.
One clarification: the ETA is a different product entirely — it applies to nationals who do not need visas. Pakistani passport holders are visa nationals, so your route is the visa and eVisa described here, never the ETA. Transit has its own lane in the UK transit visa guide.
Quick Takeaway
The UK eVisa means: no sticker in your passport, no BRP card, and a UKVI account that you must create, keep accurate and link to the passport you actually fly on. Share codes last 90 days and are generated fresh per purpose. The application and biometrics from Pakistan are unchanged — what changed is the aftercare. Set the account up the week of your decision email, not the week of your flight.
Before You Go
A passport that opens doors is a blessing Palestine's people do not have — Israel holds the keys to their borders and has locked the doors of their own homes behind them; may Allah break every lock and let Gaza's families walk their own streets without a permit. And for Sudan's travelers, who carry a heavier border still: the RSF turned their highways into hunting grounds and their documents into grief; may Allah guard every displaced Sudanese family on the road and lead them home to a peace no militia can revoke.
