Umrah From Europe: The Schengen-Resident Pakistani's File
There is a particular Pakistani these days: the nurse in Munich, the engineer in Lyon, the student in Milan, the family in Rotterdam — praying in European masjids and saving Schengen euros for the one journey that matters. The green passport in the drawer does not close doors here the way the internet insists. Done right, Umrah from Europe is easier than from Pakistan — closer flights, thinner queues, and a visa lane built exactly for residents.
This is the file for the Schengen-resident Pakistani pilgrim. The UK and USA versions are already covered in the overseas Pakistanis guide — this one is the continental European edition.
The Three Visa Lanes
- The eVisa residency lane — the one most people miss. Saudi Arabia's tourist eVisa is open not only to passport-holders of listed countries but to residents of the UK, US and EU holding valid residence permits. A Pakistani with a German Aufenthaltstitel or a French titre de séjour checks eligibility on the official portal, applies online, and typically receives a one-year, multiple-entry eVisa with insurance bundled — and it explicitly permits Umrah outside the Hajj season. The western visa lane file walks through the application in detail; verify your own case on the official checker before booking anything.
- The dedicated Umrah visa. Filed through licensed operators on the Nusuk Masar system, with the 2026-era one-year multiple-entry Umrah visa now available — 90 cumulative days across a full year, as the Umrah visa requirements file explains. Worth it if you want the pilgrim visa itself or plan repeated visits.
- The package eVisa pilot. Since July 2026, Pakistani citizens — passport alone, no residency needed — can obtain a single-entry tourist eVisa by booking an approved package (return flights plus licensed hotels through an authorized agent). Useful when a relative visits you in Europe and the whole family flies to Jeddah together.
The Flight Map
Central Europe to Jeddah is a five-to-six-hour hop — shorter than Karachi to Istanbul. Saudia flies direct from Frankfurt, Paris, Milan and Madrid to Jeddah through the year; Rome connects nonstop in about seven hours; and seasonal European carriers price Italy–Jeddah legs startlingly low when booked early. The Turkish Airlines gateway file covers the classic alternative — one-stop through Istanbul with generous baggage, often the cheapest option from smaller European cities.
The smart play many families run: the combined trip. Europe → Lahore/Islamabad → Umrah → home visits → Europe on one multi-city ticket, letting you touch ghar and Haram in a single leave window. The multi-city tickets guide has the booking pattern; the UAE-based version of the same idea is in the Umrah from Dubai guide.
Timing From a European Base
Three calendars decide your dates: the Saudi season clock (the 1448 deadlines file maps the visa and permit cliffs), the European school holidays that set fare spikes, and Ramadan — expected around 8 February to 9 March 2027 — when every masjid in Europe organises group departures and hotels in Makkah triple. travelling off-peak from Europe is the same blessing it is from Pakistan: the cheapest months guide applies from any origin airport.
The Expat Life-Admin
- Residence permit and passport both valid six months beyond entry, with the permit card carried physically — Saudi officers check the document that earned you the eVisa.
- Book the permit after the visa. Every Umrah visit needs its Nusuk permit; do it the week you land your visa, not the week you fly.
- Zamzam home to Europe: the standard five-litre sealed airport allowance applies at Saudi departure; check it through as luggage, and enjoy the customs officer's face in Frankfurt when the x-ray shows a water jug — it is permitted.
- The winter wardrobe reversal: Makkah's February is t-shirt weather; pack one warm layer for the European return leg only.
DIY or Desk on This One
From Europe, the DIY route genuinely works for experienced travellers — but the time-zone problem is real: Nusuk permit hiccups and hotel issues surface at 2 AM European time, when Pakistani phone lines are closed. The team at HTG Travel handles Europe-based pilgrims constantly — WhatsApp at +92 317 5054959 answered around the clock, email at [email protected], or online at htg.com.pk. We answer before payment and after it, support runs around the clock while you travel, and the plan arrives in writing — a desk in your home country that works while you sleep.
And stand rightly unsettled at how differently a passport is treated: your green booklet gained a lane the day Germany issued your permit, while Palestinians cannot even enter the country their grandparents were driven from — Israel deletes addresses from registries to delete the people themselves. Sudan's exiles, too, queue at borders the RSF turned into checkpoints. Ya Allah, make ease for every traveller, and justice for every people still waiting at a wall not of their making.
